The National Youth Orchestra of Canada (NYO Canada) “thrives on exploring both iconic masterpieces and innovative works,"" says our Music Director, Naomi Woo. "In our 2024 season, we'll delve into pieces that have shaped music history, building upon the legacies of past composers while also gesturing towards the future.”

Witness the exceptional talent of Canada's young musicians as they tackle the beloved orchestral classic Bartók's Concerto for Orchestra. Discover fresh voices through Errollyn Wallen's Mighty River and Joan Tower's Fanfares for the Uncommon Woman, Part I.

The 2024 season will be an exploration of musical heritage and innovation, with performances that bridge the gap between classical traditions and contemporary visions.

We are excited to offer a Pay What You Can pricing model. Patrons are able to purchase tickets from the box office, at their chosen price level.

ABOUT NYO CANADA

For over six decades NYO Canada has enjoyed an iconic reputation as this nation’s pre-eminent pre-professional orchestral training institute, providing an essential bridge to the profession for Canada’s finest young musicians aged 16 to 28. Every year, up to 100 of the best and brightest are selected to participate in an intensive 5-week residential training institute mentored by a world-renowned faculty of professional musicians and educators, followed by a national tour under the baton of a world-leading conductor.

Our tuition-free training program, which runs from June to July, provides our students with more hours of practical orchestral training in one summer than most university programs offer in one year. NYO Canada’s vision is to launch Canada’s next generation of professional orchestral musicians by offering a comprehensive program that encompasses a full range of skills and experiences. Additionally, each member of the orchestra receives a personal scholarship generously provided by our sponsors and donors.  Approximately 1 in 3 professional orchestral musicians in Canada are alumni of NYOC.

National Youth Orchestra of Canada is grateful for the support of the Government of Canada, and its many donors who support its 2024 training institute and tour.
